Our Pillars

Economic Empowerment for Sustainable Livelihoods and Climate Action

Upskilling /Reskilling

Under this program, IIE seeks to enable women and youth to improve or update their knowledge, skills and attitudes so that they can advance in self employment.

IIE taps into an ecosystem of existing youth and women groups to achieve its goal of creating economic resilience for rural populace.

Identified and popular youth / women group leaders are trained and in turn pass on the skills through peer education in their group meetings. Mostly the areas for upskilling / reskilling surround agriculture, bee keeping, animal husbandry, poultry keeping, weaving, tree planting, pottery and other areas as introduced by groups within IIE’s target populations.

Digital Literacy and Entrepreneurship

We firstly employ ‘ confidence booster’  sessions for youth under this pillar.

We are reminded that all human beings come into this world with innate potential, inbuilt in the person, with great potential to contribute to one’s own success, that of their family and their community.

We are in the process of curating digital lessons necessary for youth to understand and undertake online learning with efficiency.

We plan to  cover learning on mobile phones and other devices. The next approach to achieving success is to inculcate knowledge on the trade the youth is training in  / has been trained on, understand its’ career pathway including national and international certification for that trade.

Since the modern workforce as well as the marketplace requires essential skills for survival and lasting success, the youth and women are trained in entrepreneurship skills which includes but not limited to branchless banking, basic financial / bookkeeping skills, customer care, digital marketing, negotiation skills and record keeping among others.

Climate Action

Climate change threatens our existence.  Our climate action surrounds educating the youth and the larger rural community on  impacts of climate change as we advocate for a more sustainable future for all.

We employ the use of youth climate champions / change makers who discuss issues such as cutting down trees for farmland and industries, burning down of forests and trees, how climate change affects food security and heightens competition for scarce resources etc and how these actions  affect our carbon reservoirs.

The youth champions highlight the importance of going green ( they explore using various every day methods to reduce the harm that our daily living does to the environment) and spearhead avid tree planting among youth and women groups.

Additionally, the youth change makers address how women and girls participation and leadership make climate action more effective and strengthen the community’s collective ability to tackle the climate crisis.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower grassroots women and girls to collectively engage the public and political spheres, starting with women’s practical economic needs and social norms at the village level, and building up to national agendas.
